Marisa Scheinfeld was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1980. She received her B.A. in 2002 and her MFA in 2011. Her work is highly motivated by her interest in ruins, or sites and the histories embedded within them. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is among the collections of The Center for Jewish History, The Simon Wiesenthal Center and The National Yiddish Book Center. In the fall of 2016, Cornell University Press will publish a book of Marisa's photographs of the Borscht Belt. Entitled The Borscht Belt: Revisiting the Remains of America's Jewish Vacationland, the book will contain over 120 images and will include essays from Jewish-American historian Jenna Weissman Joselit, author Stefan Kanfer and Marisa herself.
